MATURATION CELLAR

When wine meets wood, a magic unfolds that is as old as time, but has evolved into a fine art in the modern era.

Ageing in oak barrels is an integral phase for the making of quality wines. For this reason this process is a focus point for DGB and receives consummate attention and resources.

WELLINGTON PRODUCTION HEADQUARTERS

DGB Production is committed to be a responsible producer of wine and spirits at our three production sites in Franschhoek, Boschendal and Wellington.  We do this with an integrated system of international accredited standards which includes ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 4500, FSSC 22000, BSCI, Wieta, Fairtrade and Organic, where we ensure sustainability practises in every sphere of our operations.  We employ around 230 people, and a contingent of contract workers if needed.

TANK PLANT

The tank plant at Wellington handles the receival, blending and final preparation of bulk wines for white wine products and spirits production.  It comprises of all modern, stainless steel tanks with a capacity of 7,2 million litres.

The specialised layout of the plant ensures that both small boutique volumes as well as big commercial volumes can be handled with utmost precision.  All apparatus used, such as pumps, filters, cooling system, etc is specialised to allow a gentle action on the wine.

We’re extremely proud of the well-skilled, qualified team who all have many years of experience in their field.  This, along with the company’s objective to at all times keep abreast with the latest technology, enables us to ensure that our wines will always be world-class.

LABORATORIES

The Laboratory functions as a vital gear in the production machine.  It is here that all the bulk and final product quality checks are made to ensure that only the best ends up in each bottle.

The laboratory team consists of a dynamic and energetic crew.  These highly skilled analysts, assisted by the latest and most advanced scientific equipment, perform a wide variety of tests on a daily basis to ensure that the highest international quality standards are met.  Testing ranges from the average alcohol determination by distillation, to the very intricate chemical analysis by means of Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy.

BOTTLING PLANT

DGB’s packaging facility with three bottling lines equipped for wine production, two lines for spirits bottling, and a sleeving line, allows us a full service spectrum.  A further work and five-station labelling line allows for specialised projects with small volumes.

Advanced technologies are employed to drive effiencies and eliminate quality problems down the line.  Our focus range from ensuring supplier performance through a supplier management program to the basic details such as incoming water control from municipal quality to process quality, CIP/Sterilisation of lines which are automatically controlled and recorded.  Further state of the art technologies include a live Shopware system and Hardness Accumulation.  Oxygen is controlled and monitored to ensure readings under 2pppm for total pack oxygen.

Our equipment operators and technical staff are fully trained and well equipped to ensure good quality and efficiency performance at all times.

WAREHOUSING

The Warehousing facility boasts state of the art high-racking systems, which are accessed by a fleet of reach trucks and forklifts.  This allows us to maximise space utilisation and also improve storage and picking efficiencies.  Order preparation is done by a team of highly skilled staff, with the use of an advanced SAP MRP system.  From our warehouse distribution is done both to the national network of depots and direct customers, as well as into Africa by long distance road transport, and numerous destinations globally.

WAREHOUSING
Fine wine deserves fine storage, to make sure it is in the same pristine condition upon arrival on the retail shelf and consumer's glass as when it left the cellar.
