The partnership with Brait, a JSE-listed independent investment company, acquired 80% of its shareholding from owner, philanthropist and wine magnate, Mr. Graham Beck. After Mr. Beck’s passing in 2010, the family eventually sold the retained 20% shareholding to Brait five years later. In 2019, it wasn’t long until Brait started a process to sell numerous investments. By June 2020, Capitalworks in partnership with Tim Hutchinson, long-time head of DGB, concluded a transaction that acquired a majority shareholding in DGB. Capitalworks is an Independent Asset Management Company founded by Mr. Chad Smart, who once served on the DGB Board of Directors for eight years. With senior management also investing in the business and with Capitalworks supporting a management team with extensive industry knowledge and experience, the growth & success of the business going forward is assured.
