The Boschendal Estate

The Estate

Set in the Drakenstein Valley surrounded by dramatic mountain landscapes, lush gardens and vines, the original farmstead complex is now a national monument with a rich and intriguing history of more than 330 years. Today, Boschendal is a Cape winelands icon and an acclaimed wine and food destination. Our vineyards and fruit trees have been joined by vegetable gardens and a growing herd of free range, 100% pasture fed Angus cattle reflecting our commitment to a wholesome farm-to-fork experience.

In harmony with nature

At Boschendal, we believe that great wine begins in the vineyard. For this reason, we have made it our priority to embrace sustainability techniques across both our farm and cellar practices to retain the country’s exceptional biodiversity and to empower the teams that work within it. As a proud WWF Conservation Champion status recipient, Boschendal is committed to addressing environmental concerns and meets a set of rigorous conservation criteria. The health of the soil is integral to the health of the vines, and the use of cover crops in the vineyards to enrich the soil, inhibiting weed growth and preserving soil moisture, as well as managing erosion and controlling pests has proved invaluable.

Our winemaking philosophy

Our winemaking philosophy considers our tremendous natural heritage first and foremost. Our vision is to balance tradition and experience with contemporary innovation to produce unique wines of individual character with a signature elegance and finesse. The cornerstones of this philosophy are accomplished by our commitment to: focussed winemaking with three dedicated winemakers, implementing precision, small batch winemaking techniques to maximise the expression of excellent terroirs, meticulous sorting methods and gentle nurturing of every grape, all components are vinified separately to be exceptional in their own right before blending and judicious barrel usage to enhance the true character of each wine.
