Our team of viticulturists source the finest grapes from sought-after vineyard sites across the Western Cape of South Africa, a task that they have mastered over many years of research and the use of cutting-edge technological resources. In the cellar Winemaker, Richard Duckitt, employs an array of fermentation vessels to produce well-balanced, hand-crafted wines.

Fryers Cove
Some 300 km’s from Cape Town the R362 winds its way up the picturesque West Coast. Along this largely unspoiled coastline lies Doringbaai, home to a small but hardy fishing community and arguably the world’s only vineyard this close to the icy Atlantic Ocean. Welcome to Fryer’s Cove. Fryer’s Cove is the only vineyard within the Bamboes Bay ward, which is also the smallest ward in South Africa. The vines of Fryer’s Cove dot the hillside 500 meters from where the cold Atlantic Ocean throws its breakers against the rocky shore. The locals are as robust and unfettered as the landscape and it is this terroir that imbues every bottle of Fryer’s Cove wine. Fryer’s Cove wines have a distinct maritime flavour, hence our slogan ‘Forged of the earth, Tempered by the sea’.

Our premium offering consists of carefully curated wines from unique terroirs. We work hand in glove with the growers of these unique old vineyards, some of them more being 85 years old, and in such a way to reflect the purest expression of this Franschhoek terroir. As nature has done her part in providing us with these special grapes, it is now our turn to return the favour and do the work in the cellar to make sure each vintage is stand-out. We follow a philosophy of minimal intervention and do our best to coax the wine as gently as possible into the bottle.

The wine style is elegant with attractive fruit flavours and a balanced mouth structure. The initial sweetness ends in a dryish aftertaste which has made the wine enormously popular and one of South Africa’s favourites. A full gently sweet entry with a lush and juicy mouth feel – ripe fruit salad flavours are wonderfully offset by a tangy perky acidity that lifts the wine and takes it through to a fruity yet fresh and inviting finish. A very drinkable wine served well chilled on its own, or at picnics and braai’s or with Indian curries, BBQ flavours, summer salads and peri-peri chicken.
